About Me

My photo
Alicante, Spain
Hi. I live in Spain with my partner. I am retired and LOVE it. I love life here but I do miss my family back in the UK, two sons and three sisters and my Mum. Crafting is my life, I do something every single day. In the past it has helped me get through some bad times in my life. One such bad time was when my first grandson died aged just 14 months. He had been born 8 weeks prem but was very healthy and was growing into a beautiful, bonny boy. It was such a shock when the call came. A day never passes when I dont think of him. I am now Nanna again to grand daughter, Hollie, born July 2012, and Tess born March 2016. This is my younger son and his partner. I now have another Grandson, Noah, born Nov 2013 to my elder Son and they have 3 daughters Aurora, born March 2015 and Arabella, born August 2017 and Arianna born 2019. Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy my makes. Please leave a comment so that I know you have visited me. I love reading them all. xxxx

A Little bit Shabby for MAWTT

Good Morning All

Moving Along With The Times Challenge this week is hosted by a newer DT, June, but as she is not well I am standing in for her.

She wants to see
A Little bit Shabby Chic
creations this time.
Now I love Shabby Chic but I find it quite hard to accomplish.

The Eiffel tower paper is from a pad I bought in the Works in UK.
So I kept it sort of browns and blacks.
I distressed the edges of the papers and then inked them.
I made a tiny card to go inside the envelope made from book pages.

I stamped afew Happy Birthdays along the edge so that people know it is a Birthday card.
Then I found an Eiffel tower charm in my stash - perfect.

Pop over to the challenge blog to see all the other wonderful DT creations.

Wings for Allsorts

Good Morning All
Allsorts Challenge time again and the theme is
Things With Wings.
I nearly always go for Butterflies so I decided to have a change and went with Birds.
Now this paper, from a magazine, has been in my stash for ever!!!!
I made a sort of Shabby Chic card.
Lots of bits used on this.
I have a box I keep stuff in to make Tags, so I delved into that.

Brenda is giving a prize of a Set of Stamps for this one.

Taking mum to respite home today for a week, she looks on it as a holiday, getting waited on, all meals cooked for her etc

Shabby Chic for Allsorts

Good Morning All
Allsorts Challenge this week is hosted by Mervi and the theme is
Shabby Chic.
I made this card and I have also made some flowers for a swap.
Lots of elements on this, alot from my scrappy box too.
This is a great way of using scraps (I think anyway)
as you can just add odd bits here and there.  Makes it look more shabby!!!

And onto the flowers.

Our sponsor this week is Swedish House Crafts

Altered Box

Good Morning All
I had a lovely, sturdy box with Hand Cream and bits in and decided to  decorate it.
The Front

The gorgeous blue gathered trim on the edge was gifted to me from Annie in Australia, thank you.

Decorated the front with doilies and a vintage picture, lace and a charm.

Homemade flower with a butterfly and Pin.

Inside with a Tag.

Shabby Chic Card

Good Morning All
I have been playing around with Shabby Chic again after watching Pamellias You tube videos.
She has amazing talent and I adore her style.  I find it quite difficult because I need to have format and order.  But I love the look of Shabby Chic so I am going to keep practicing.
I had to make a box for it too as it is quite a deep card with the flowers on.

This is the lid of the box.

Card in box and lid.

Very happy with this.

Giant Fabric Book

Good Morning All
As some of you may know I have not been too good.
I am finding it hard to craft or do anything at present but I am trying to force myself to do things, even housework, swimming and blogging.
Hence, I thought I would show this Fabric Book I made before I went to UK in June.
It is rather large as it is made from a pillowcase.
This is the completed item.

I bought a quilt cover and one pillowcase from a charity shop for afew euros.

This is the pillowcase, folded and I made two lots with it so there are four pages in my book.
This will be the outside, covered with lace, see pics further down.

I folded it up so that I had pockets too.

This is a tray cloth that I edged with binding to give it strength to make another pocket on the other page.

Then I just  added as much or a litlle embellishments as I wanted - doilies, hand crochet, broderie anglais trim, lace, dazzlers etc.

I finally sorted through all my charms and put them on put them on large safety pins and pinned them in.

Then added  Stick Pins and Embellishments I have made.

It is rather large, about A4 size but I love it and it takes pride of place on my coffee table in my craft room, ready for when I want to browse for embellishments.

Grand Kids Shabby Chic Canvas

Good Morning All
We are away this morning for afew days to a place called Altea.
It's not very far, about 1 and 1/2 hours drive but the deal we got with the hotel was too good to miss.
So forgive me for not commenting for afew days.
********
I have three pictures in my house that I inherited when I moved in with my John.
They are flowers painted on canvas and about 18" x 18".
They are nice but I  am abit fed up with them so I thought I would alter one and see how it turned out.
I painted the whole thing with white Oil paint, which took an age to dry, I have since bought some Acrylic paint which will dry alot quicker.

I wanted to keep the centre for photos of my Grand kids.
Then I went to town with embellishments !!!!
The great thing about this type of art is that you can use lots of bits that you would no longer use on cards or have had in  your stash for ages.

All the doilies are hand crochet by me.

If anyone would like afew please email me and I will send some.

Hand made flowers from scraps of material.

I added Texture Paste, Shells, Flowers, Lace, String
etc. etc. etc.

I put a sheet of acetate in the middle so that I could add a sheet with photos on and change it as and when I wanted.

I have left a space to add pics of Tess when I get some  printed when I go to UK in June.

Very Happy with how this turned out and I am eager to do another one.
*******
This now takes pride of place on my wall.
Did anyone catch John next Doors shows on Hochanda with him doing Mixed Media?
I caught up on them afew days ago and was very impressed.
Here is is link to one of the items he showed.
He really seemed to enjoy doing this type of art.
I saw the item showed on the link and it really is soooo shiny.

Shabby Chic Frame

Good Morning All

My older followers will remember when John Next Door and I used to do challenges on Sundays, called Sunday Mojo.  We would take it in turns to give each other some stuff and we had to make something with them and I think this frame was one that John made, he left it with me when he went back to UK.
The link to what I did to my frame is  HERE.

Anyway, I found this one that John had made. When he packed up to return to UK he left few bits and bobs behind with me.  I found this and thought I would have a go at altering it.
Hope you dont mind John.!!!
He doesn't, as I checked with him.

So I stripped it of the pic, John had painted the frame in shabby pink and cream so that looked OK.
I just added some heat embossing of a glitter powder and then sprayed it with Mica powder in water then heat dried it.
I wanted to make it into something I could put pics of the kids in so I made an acetate pocket so that I can change the photo when I want to.

The pic I put in is one of Noah with Aurora which I thought suited the shabby look of this perfectly as it is half in shadow.

The doilies are ones I have crocheted myself.
Quite pleased with this but not as shabby chic as I would like.
This technique does not come naturally to me.
Please let me know what you think.

Ps. I had a fab time at Ally Pally, met some wonderful people and made some new friends.
I shall add some pics next week when I get home and can upload pics from my camera.
Having lots of baby and Hollie cuddles this week.

Fabric Book Project

Good Morning All

Welcome to my newest followers, Pat and Maarit, nice of you to join me, I hope you enjoy your visits.

This is the project I used the tray cloth on.

It is a Shabby Chic Fabric Book.

My very first attempt so abit wonky!!!!

I enjoyed doing it and will make more, Christmas gifts!!!!!!

The fabric under the try cloth is still the off cuts from a quilt cover I used to make cushion covers for the seat on a sofa.

The frill around the edge is from an underskirt that I also picked up in the charity shop for 20cents!!!

I covered a plastic ring in ribbon so that the book can be hung up.

I am still making stick pins and thought this would be a great idea for storing them.
Also, earrings can be hung from the lace.

I have decided to sew in some more plastic rings so that bracelets or necklaces can be hung on them.

I am going to take this with me to Loriens when I go in April, after she has had the baby. She is in hospital at present as baby is breech. This will be a gift for her to store her jewellery  in her bedroom, I hope!!!!
Pop over to see Jennings 644  on You Tube, she has some gorgeous  tutorials for all sorts of stuff.
